CENTRAL CITY | Jerolyn "Jeri" Ferley Ruth, 70, Central City, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Rapid City Regional Hospital. A loving mother and grandmother, Jerolyn was known to put the needs of others before herself. Her home was always a welcoming place where every grandchild was raised being held by their "MiMi," who called them "pookie" and "baby cakes." She had many close friends as well. She was a very fun-loving person and was free spirited. She really enjoyed people with a good sense of humor. She was open-hearted, always making time for her friends. Between family and friends, Jerolyn was many people's favorite person! She was an extremely talented artist able to use many mediums from needle point to bead work to oil painting. She won many awards when she would enter contests. She was a very talented painter, which is one of the things she loved to do most. She loved to sit on the porch of her cabin and loved the tranquility of nature. Throughout her whole life, one of her favorite things was to sit on the porch and listen to the rain. She was married first to John Ferley and was loving mother to Ty Ferley and Natali Ormiston, and loving grandmother to Sundance Kemp, Sedona Kemp, Braxton Ferley, and Ava Ormiston. She was later married to David Ruth and was loving stepmother to David Ruth Jr., Kerry Ruth, and Wendi Ruth, and loving grandmother to Tanner Ruth, Jachin Ruth, Kameron, Peyton and Taylor. Jerolyn's mother was Altha Lampert and her father was Dr. Art Lampert. She had one sister, Cheryl Bingham. She was born and raised in Rapid City, S.D., as was her mother, and her mother before her. She lived many places including Wyoming, Nebraska, Montana, and Nevada, often moving to be close to family. She was a spiritual person, believing in kindness, the power of positive thinking, compassion and love. She believed in keeping an open and accepting mind about spirituality as well as many other aspects of life. Jerolyn loved to shop! Gift giving was important to her. She loved to decorate! And her friends and family loved to have her help them in their decorating, which she would joyfully do. She was loved dearly, and will be missed greatly by many. Until we meet again. :) She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Altha Lampert; and husband, David Ruth Sr. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, with Minister Richard Kiefer of Unity Spiritual Center of the Black Hills officiating.
