Jerry Arthur Hughes, 86, passed away July 13, 2025, at Fort Meade VA Medical Center.

He was born on November 28, 1938, to William and Doris (Bates) Hughes. He grew up mostly in the Rapid City area, graduating in 1956. Jerry joined the United States Navy in 1956 and proudly served until his honorably discharge in 1959.

Jerry married Judi Kay Courtney on January 20, 1962 and were later joined by their two sons, Jerry and James.

He leaves behind his wife, Judi; son, Jerry; son, James (Penny); grandchildren, Richard (Christina) Hughes and Jennifer (Mike) Hughes; eight plus one on the way great grandchildren; and sister, Virginia Reimold. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, William and Doris Hughes.

Jerry was one heck of a likeable guy. He was a kind and gentle man that never had an enemy. Per his wishes cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Jerry would not want flowers or plants instead please go out and be like Jerry…be a good person.

The family would like express their sincere gratitude to the Ft Meade VA for the compassionate and dedicated care provided to Jerry during his final days.
