Obituary

Jerry E. Lorenzen, 71, Rapid City, died at his residence in Rapid City on Sunday, September 8, 2013.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Rapid City Moose Lodge at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2013.

Committal services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2013, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with Pastor Gregg Hemmen officiating and military honors provided by VFW Post 1273.

Jerry was born May 11, 1942, in Minnehaha County, SD, to Eldo and Viola (Hawes) Lorenzen. He grew up on a farm near Jasper, MN, and graduated from high school in Luverne, MN, in 1959. He joined the US Navy in 1959. He served on the USS Henrico after boot camp until 1963.

He worked road construction until 1965, and was then accepted into the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Apprenticeship Program for four years and worked in Rapid City. After the flood in 1972, he started Rimrock Electric and sold the business in 1979. In 1983, he bought Lorenzen Electric from his father and worked around Rapid City until 2006.

Jerry retired in 2006 and he and his wife operated the Idlewild Inn until his wife died in 2010.

Survivors include his three brothers, Donald (Judy) Lorenzen, Wilmont, MN, Dennis (Pat) Lorenzen, Box Elder, and Duane Lorenzen, Gillette, WY; one sister, Susan (Norm) Stahl, Brandon, SD; two stepchildren, Cindy (Dave) Peterson, Rapid City, and Steve (Melanie) Reimer, Rapid City; four grandchildren, Andy Kilborn, California, Samantha Reimer, Shelah Reimer, and Brach Reimer, all of Rapid City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; his sister, Marianne; and his parents.
