Obituary

Jerry was born September 19, 1955, at Rapid City, SD, to Clarence E. and Patricia A. (Kammerer) Roth.

He grew up on Elk Creek and moved to Boulder Canyon at a young age. He went to school in Boulder Canyon. After his parents death the kids moved to Oshkosh, WI. They lived there four years before moving back to Rapid City. Jerry graduated from Spearfish High School in 1973. He attended South Dakota State University in Brookings. He met Rhonda White and they married in 1978. He attended Western Dakota Vo-Tech for auto mechanics. Jerry worked in construction around Rapid City. He moved to California in 1980 where he worked construction and rodeoed. They moved back in 1989.

Jerry was truly a cowboy at heart. He loved being with the horses and cattle and was forever improving his roping skills by practicing and roping every chance he got. He had many skills, sort of a jack-of-all-trades. He could do any ranch work that you wanted done, good at training horses, team roping, calf roping, building homes, working on vehicles, and concrete work. He actually worked on "Dances With Wolves" in special effects. You name it, Jerry could do it. While in California, he traveled all over the area to team rope with his roping buddies. Occasionally, he would calf rope and would come in first or second.

Jerry would take his cousins, nieces, and nephews with him whenever he would go out to work with the horses, go fishing, or whatever his plan was for the day. He was a great kidder and would tease the kids and play and wrestle with them. His smile would light up the room with that mischievous twinkle in his eye, and he was a very social man. All who know him will forever miss his smile and compassionate heart and the wonderful man that he was.

Jerry worked at the Sturgis Livestock Exchange and Campbell's Supply for many years.
