Obituary

James "Jim" Christensen, 68, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023, in the comfort of his home. Jim was born to Don and Rena Christensen of Whitewood on May 19, 1955, and graduated from Sturgis High School.

He met his first love, Debra "Deb" Arnio, and they were married on July 4, 1974. Together they called Whitewood home, and welcomed their son, Clint, in September of 1989.

Jim worked with his father and brother, Albert, in the family sawmill and logging business. He began his own business, Christensen Contracting, and served the Black Hills for over 40 years. There are few others who know the lay of the land like Jim. Through his hard work and ingenuity, Jim left his mark on the land, which inspired his son to follow his passions and pursue a career that was more than a job, just as Jim had done.

After Deb's passing in 2007, Jim was fortunate to meet his second love, Philys Reller, and together they fostered a loving home in which their grandchildren love to frequent. Philys became his partner and best friend to the end.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Rena; brother, Albert; and his wife, Deb.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Clint and Virginia Christensen; granddaughters, Vera Marie and Evelyn Grace; grandson, William James; his partner, Philys Reller; her son's Lucas Reller, Preston, and Chanda Findley, and their son's Drecen and Reace; and his nephew, Jeremy Christensen.

The family will be hosting a celebration of life for Jim on August 18, at 3 PM at Hale Hall in Whitewood SD.
