August 18, 1940 – April 18, 2020
James Orrin Mastin went home on April 18, 2020. He was born on August 18, 1940, to Dwight Mastin and Helen (Jones) Mastin, in Kansas City, KS. He moved to Huron, SD, in 1948, where he met Maxine Schaffer. They were married August 3, 1958, and out of this marriage 6 children were born.
He joined the Army in November 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1962. They then moved to Rapid City, SD, where he called it home until his passing. He was a hardworking man with many trades. He owned and operated, Rapid Sewer Service, Rapid Answering Service, and J.O. Mastin and Sons Construction, in the late 60's to early 70's. He played a big role in the recovery efforts due to the Flood of 1972. One of his accomplishments was helping build the "Pigtails" near Keystone, SD. He also worked for the Civil Service for over 26 years before retiring.
He is survived by his 6 children: sons, Robert (Barb) Mastin, Rapid City , SD, and Richard (April) Mastin, Rapid City, SD; daughters, Debra (Michael) Sullivan, Rapid City, SD, Janine (Seth) Cross, Lakewood, CO, Julie (Steve) Erck, Arvada, CO, and Diana Anderson, Hermosa, SD; sister, Michelle, TX; niece, Shawna, TX; 31 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father; mother; brother, Sonny; and several other relatives.
He was loved by many and was always willing to help when needed. He will be missed dearly. Rest in peace " Jimminy Cricket."
