Obituary

Jimmie L. Funell was born October 20, 1943, at Sturgis, SD, to Oscar and Sylvia (Heaton) Funell. He was raised on the family ranch and graduated from Sturgis High School. Following his honorable service as a jet mechanic in the Navy, Jimmie returned home. He was a dirt track racing thrill seeker. He could be found at Black Hills Speedway on Friday night, Gillette on Saturday, and sometimes Huron or anywhere there was a race. Jimmie owned and operated Fast Lane Fabrications and later established Alleycat Engineering Inc. in Rapid City where he continued his life long focus of building and fabricating fast race cars.

On July 14, 2010 he married Cheri Mercy Johnson at Reno, Nevada.

Jimmie would like to be remembered for his faith in God and Country; and perhaps a little racing.

Jimmie, 67, Rapid City, died Sunday, June 26, 2011, at his residence in Rapid City.

Survivors include his wife, Cheri Funell, Rapid City; son, Michael Funell, Lead; daughter, Michelle (Michael) Qualls, Billings, MT; step-son, Darwin (Connie) Hellekson, Phillip, SD; sister, Beverly (Pat) Urbaniak, Sturgis; and numerous grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John Funell; previous wife, Deanna; and his beloved dog, Jack.
