Joan S. Lemmel was born October 2, 1939, in New Underwood, SD, to Elbert and Marjorie Shoun, who lived in Red Owl, SD.

She married Charles Lemmel and together they moved to Aurora, CO, and then moved to Longmont, CO, where she modeled a little and then was a bookkeeper. Joan sold Mary Kay products, and she was the treasurer for the Arabian Club. She loved showing her horses and trail riding, and she also enjoyed playing the piano/organ, often playing for the Moose Club events. Joan especially loved working with her Longhorn and Charolais cattle.
In 2000, she moved to Whitewood, SD, and resided there until 2016, when she went to live near her daughter in Cheyenne, WY.

Joan Sylvia Lemmel, 80, of Cheyenne, WY, and formerly of Whitewood, SD, died Friday, November 29, 2019.

Survivors include her daughter, Janeen (Jack) Emerson; and nephews, Kevin Kerwin, Kody Kerwin, and Kenny Kerwin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lemmel; son, JayDee Lemmel; sister, Geraldine Junge; and her parents, Elbert and Marjorie Shoun.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, December 5, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 6, 2019, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating. Burial will follow at Bear Butte Cemetery.
