Joan "Coach" M. Packard, 71, Sturgis, died Sunday, July 20, 2008 at her residence in Boulder Canyon.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Joel Higgins officiating.

Joan Marie was born February 27, 1937 at Brookings, SD, to Earl and Marlys (Duff) Hemmer. She graduated from Brookings High School in 1955.

She married Max Neyhart on August 6, 1958. She had two children from this marriage.

On July 28, 1972 she married Roger Packard at Sisseton, SD.

Joan retired from Hickok's Casino in Deadwood in April of 1999 where she was employed as a cashier.

Survivors include her husband Roger, Boulder Canyon; one son, Tim (Sandy) Neyhart, Pierre; one daughter, Shari Neyhart, Sturgis; four grandchildren, Kimberly and Katherine Neyhart, Amber Neyhart (Justin Plunkett) and James Bond; one brother, James (Lucy) Hemmer, Stanchfield, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gene Hemmer, and brother Richard Hemmer.

A memorial has been established to the VFW Auxiliary.
