Johanna Reznicek Rasmussen, 98, of Sturgis died Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the Sturgis Regional Senior Care Center.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 20, 2011 from Noon until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary service starting at 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will take place Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis with Father Bob Baden officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hill National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Johanna was born at Hague, ND on October 31, 1912, to George and Elizabeth (Zahn) Schell. She grew up with nine brothers and sisters in the Meadow area in SD and graduated from Lemmon High School. For many years, she worked as a chef in the Mint Café in Deadwood, SD. She also lived in Brownsville, TX for over 20 years.
She was married to Raymond W. Rasmussen at Bexar County, TX, on April 20, 1970. He preceded her in death in 1976.
She was an active member of the Hospital Auxiliary of Brownsville and also a member of the Meade County Senior Citizens in Sturgis. She was also a member of the St. Francis of Assisi parish.
Survivors include her son, Bob (Betty) Reznicek of Rapid City; two daughters, Dorothy Baker of Sturgis and Josephine (Bert) Carlevato of Chino Hills, CA; step-daughter, Esther Connelly of Minneapolis, MN; step-son, Ray Rasmussen of Albuquerque, NM; one sister Betty Willey of Hays, KS; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both parents; her husband; son Marvin Reznicek; two brothers and six sisters.
