Obituary

John Brown, 85, Belle Fourche, died Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at Belle Fourche Health Care.

Visitation will be Thursday from noon to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 19, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Belle Fourche with Pastor Jeff Otterman officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Slope Cemetery.

John was born November 5, 1926, at Fruitdale, SD, to David and Marie (Luft) Brown. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Cunningham in Newell on June 25, 1951. They lived in Sturgis prior to moving to New Underwood. John ran Tri-State Milling Co. in New Underwood from 1954 to 1971. They moved to Belle Fourche and John worked for Robins and Stearns Construction in Rapid City. He then worked in maintenance for the Belle Fourche School System.

One of John's favorite pastimes was fishing and he had every lure known to man. He enjoyed camping, mostly at Deerfield and also Pierre. John especially enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren.

John also enjoyed working with FFA and the New Underwood Volunteer Fire Department. He was very proud of his work at the school and always made sure the school grounds and sidewalks were always clear of snow and the football field was freshly trimmed and painted. He also prided himself with his own well manicured lawn.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, Belle Fourche; two daughters, Debra (Kim) Richardson, Grant, NE, and Barbara (Michael) Hansen, Spearfish, SD; one brother, Richard (Marge) Brown, Eagle Grove, IA; four sisters, Martha McGuire, Anaheim, CA, Eleanora (Ernest) Miller, Sturgis, SD, Dorothy McGuire, Reno, NV, and Betty Rose (John) Yeoman, Lakewood, CA; nine grandchildren, Joshua Richardson, Jeremiah (Karyn) Richardson, Jarod (Jamie) Richardson, Justin Richardson, Julianna Richardson, Anna Hansen, Jerrold (Bethany) Hansen, Elizabeth Hansen, and Jonathan Hansen; three great-granddaughters, Caylie, Aliya, and BrynAn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

A memorial has been established to St. James Lutheran Church in Belle Fourche.
