John Edward Mohr died Sunday morning June 25, 2006 in Hermosa SD in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born to Paul and Betty Mohr January 25, 1948 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and was the youngest of two boys. He and his older brother Paul were best buddies from the start. In 1952 the family moved to Fontana, CA were they were raised. He graduated in 1966, then joined the United States Navy were he proudly served his country in active combat during the Vietnam War. After serving his country he continued his education at Schaffer College. After college he moved to Rapid City, SD in 1973 where he worked in construction and excavation at Dakota Blocks. In 1976 Dad met the love of his life Sherry, they were married in RC and had three children, Shane, Ne'Cole, and Mandy. They stayed in the Rapid City and Hermosa area were they raised their family and served the Lord which was the very core of dad's life. Dad worked at Landstrom's Black Hills Gold for 15 yrs as a manager and friend to many. He later moved to Ridco where he worked as a gemologist for 11 years, and again was blessed with good friends and very supportive working environment during these last few months. Thank You! Daddy loved participating in Shane's Little League and baseball games, fixing bikes and building racecars with him. Also going to Ne'Cole and Mandy's soccer and basketball and swimming events. He was always our biggest fan, it helped that he was 6'4. Dad was very active in his favorite place to be, First Christian Church. He was involved in the Men's Ministries with his amigo J.D. He especially loved working with his good friend Bob Cole in the youth ministries. Dad loved the youth group and thought of them as his family. He was loved by them as well and will be deeply missed. He loved cooking for Church benefits and fundraisers, and most of all cooking for the Valentines Day banquet, where he always added a bit of his own "BAM". He believed in helping anyone who needed it, and was always ready to give a big bear hug to anyone regardless of your life's situations, and letting you know God loved you and he was praying for you. Dad spent a lot of his time cooking at the Corner Stone Mission and volunteering at the YMCA. He loved us kids, and even more so his grandbabies. Kholten 11, Shay 9, Maycee 7, Gracey 7, Garret John 5, Laney 3, Ricky 18, and Nathan 15. He and mom made it to every special event for us and the grandkids they could up until the end. Always giving. Other than the Lord, our Mom was the focal point of dad's life and then us kids. They were lovers, friends, soul mates, and partners for life. They made all there decisions together, hand in hand through mountains and valleys. Always sacrificing for their family. They enjoyed traveling, going for drives, sitting around the fire on rainy days and just being together. As their children we were blessed tenfold to have them both as our parents and be such amazing examples. Teaching us that marriage is the most important job you will ever have in your life and the hardest. He always said the hard is what makes the good, great, and don't go looking for trouble, it will find you easy enough. He was right, they will be happily married for 30 yrs in August. John was greeted in heaven by his Lord, and his mother Betty Mohr, and his Great Aunt Vi Sweem. Daddy was survived by his wife Sherry, his Dad Paul Mohr and brother Paul. His three children Shane, Ne' Cole and Mandy and his 8 grandchildren. Daddy we will forever be grateful for all you have taught us through your actions and your words. Your unconditional love will be with us always, and our love with you. You will be in our hearts forever. We are not saying good-bye, but see you in heaven. Visitation will be Thursday evening at First Christian Church in Rapid City from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Burial will be held Friday 9:30a.m. June 30th at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis S
