Obituary

John Fay Roth, age 90, passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at Washington County Nursing Home in Akron, Colorado.  He was born July 19, 1933, in Haydraw, South Dakota to Albert W. Roth and Lela Pearl (Derby) Roth.

Jack spent his childhood in the Black Hills of South Dakota. It is no secret that Jack was mischievous in his youth. Maybe it was his confident and independent mindset, prioritizing personal growth and living life on his own terms that attracted his wife of seventy-two years, Mary. Together they moved from the Hills of South Dakota to the small town of Glendive, Montana where they welcomed their first daughter Roxie. They briefly experienced the spirit of the frontier in Cheyenne, Wyoming, before returning to South Dakota. While in South Dakota, they went from a small family of three to a boisterous family of eight, welcoming Vickie, John, Pam, Albert and Patty.  Jack's new career choice brought them to the small and quiet town of Prescott Wisconsin, where he began his career as a USDA Meat Inspector.  His skill and training eventually gained him employment at a packing plant in Fort Morgan, Colorado, where he was highly respected and took great pride in his work. Colorado is where the family decided to plant their roots and welcome the last addition to the family, Cody.

Jack enjoyed life to the fullest through simple pleasures. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with friends and family.  He thoroughly enjoyed playing dominoes, cribbage or a highly competitive game of tripoley, played amongst family during the holidays.

Jack was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He strived to live the gospel of Jesus Christ in word, in conversion, in charity and in faith. He had a strong belief in serving others that was shown in many ways throughout his life. Whether it be helping people move or organizing service projects. His example will have a profound impact on the lives he touched.

The family extends their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Washington County Nursing Home, Akron, CO, for the love and care shown to their husband, father and grandfather.
