John M. Young was born August 13, 1954, to Fred and Mabel Young in Mt. Home, ID. He served in the US Navy and later became a Sgt in the US Army being honorable discharged in 1984. Both John and his father were professional chefs and restaurant owners. He was a skilled boxer and basketball player. He enjoyed building street rods and riding horses and motorcycles.
On September 9, 1999, John moved to Rapid City, and on November 23, 1999, he married Jo Stork. John worked 8 years at Tally's Diner, and at the West Side Family Thrift Center, Boyd's, and the Dollar Tree for 3 years each.
John, 64, Rapid City, died, at home Monday, October 1, 2018, after a four-month battle against cancer.
John is survived by his wife Jo, Rapid City; and many relatives and friends across the country, including brothers, Clarence, Oregon, and Joseph, Utah; nephew, J.W., Wyoming; and 3 cats.

A memorial service, with military honors provided by Rapid City VFW Post 1273, will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2018, at Black Hills National Cemetery.
