John "Jack"
Mckean
Oct 12, 1949 — Apr 12, 2023
Sturgis
John "Jack" Berdett McKean, 73, of Sturgis, South Dakota, passed away on April 12, 2023. He survived a decade of illness after a severe stroke.
Jack was born on October 12, 1949, to John T. and Myrle (Butterfield) McKean in Deadwood, SD. He graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1967 and went on to study at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbra, California.
After graduation, he used his skills and talent in photography with the United States Air Force, Air National Guard of Nebraska, Army National Guard of South Dakota, Belle Fourche Police Department, and the Upton Police Department.
While in college, Jack met Sheila Clark, and they wed in 1969, going on to have three children, John Allen McKean, Dale Andrew "Andy" McKean, and Jennifer Marie McKean.
Jack really was a "Jack" of all-trades...
He always had a passion for getting his feet into the newest upcoming forms of technology: Jack alongside his parents and wife owned and managed businesses in South Dakota, Wyoming, and Nevada in the areas of photography, picture development, art, and framing. Jack was also a co-owner a soda blasting restoration business with his son, John. He also worked in car sales, land mapping for irrigation districts, hydroponic gardening, and computer technology repair and sales.
In his past time, he enjoyed riding dirt bikes and ATVs, building and restoring boats and cars with his boys, water skiing, fishing, camping and ultimately anything that included quality family time.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John T McKean and Myrle McKean; and his sisters, Mary Greenly and Dorcus Pridgeon.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila of Sturgis; sons, John A.(Valerie) McKean of Spearfish, SD and Andy (Morgan) McKean of Trenton, TN; daughter, Jennifer (Travis) Brown of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren, Jenasis, Roy and Asher Brown; and many nieces and nephews.
Services are not scheduled at this time; a memorial will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery.
