John was born on April 3, 1939, to John and Helen (Yabor) Sexton in Middletown, Ohio. He graduated high school and went on to obtain a bachelor's degree. He then joined the Air Force and had served his country honorably for 21 years until his retirement in 1977. After that, he went to work for the Department of Social Services as a case worker. He married Helen Jean Neville on December 28, 1982 in Rapid City.

He was a member of the Elks, VFW, American Legion, NRA, and DAV.

John Buford Sexton, Jr., Rapid City, South Dakota and Middletown, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at Ft. Meade VA Medical Center.

John is beloved and survived by his wife, Helen; sons, George (Carol) Sexton, Shawn (Terri) Sexton, and Wayne (Lynne) Pedersen; daughter, Lisa (James) Robinson; eight grandchildren, Katie, Charlie, Heather, Tristan, Jessica, Christina, Travis, and Tiffany; five great-grandchildren, and
many other family members who will miss him greatly.

A memorial has been established to the Ft. Meade VA Hospice.
