John Charles Smoot, 85, Wall, died Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Belle Fourche Healthcare.

Graveside committal services will be at 2:30 pm, Friday, March 27, 2015, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, with military honors provided by the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard.

John was born August 25, 1929, at Belle Fourche to Elbert and Vivian (Schoeppach) Smoot. He served in the US Navy from 1947 until his honorable discharge in 1951. He ranched at Big Piney, WY, most of his life, and was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Survivors include two sons, Bill Smoot, St. Onge and Kim Smoot, Belle Fourche; one daughter, Barb Williamson, Belle Fourche; one sister, Janice Bush, Wall; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Vivian; a sister, Jackie Paulsen and a grandson, Chris Smoot.
