Obituary

Jordice, 5th child of Marine and Alta Aker, was born August 7, 1938, in Des Lacs, ND. Jordice attended elementary school in rural Des Lacs until the age of 12. She then moved with Marine and Alta to Rapid City where she continued her elementary education at the spring creek school 5 miles south of Rapid City. During this time, Jordice stayed with her uncle, Elmer and Geraldine Peterson, who lived on Spring Creek. Jordice started high school at the Cathedral in Rapid City until her sophomore year. She then moved to Vale and lived with her brother, Dean, and his wife, Code, and attended the Vale High School. In September of 1954, Dean, Code, and their family moved back to Rapid City. In order to finish school in Vale, Jordice stayed with Charles and Bernice Grant who lived in Vale. Jordice graduated from Vale High School in 1956.

On August 31, 1958, Jordice married Duane Arnold Leaver in Rapid City at the Zion Lutheran Church. Duane was enlisted in the USMC and was stationed at Twenty-Nine Palms, CA. After their wedding, they moved to Twenty-Nine Palms. They also lived in Oceanside, CA, and on April 19, 1971, Duane, Jordice and their three sons moved back to Rapid City.

Jordice worked at the Bennett-Clarkson Hospital in Rapid City until she moved to Whitewood, SD, in the summer of 1972. Jordice then went to work for Sturgis Regional Hospital. In January of 1973, she had a daughter, Tammy Lynn. Jordice started working at Sandstone Manor Assisted Living in 1999. She retired several times. HA HA! She fully retired 3 years ago and was living in Whitewood with her daughter, Tammy, and son-in-law, Rich, and their family at the time of her death. On November 8, 2001, her husband, Duane, died and is buried at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Jordice and Duane had 4 children; Doug (Kelly) Leaver, Sioux Falls, Kenny (Sherry) Leaver, Whitewood, Michael Leaver, Whitewood, and Tammy (Rich) Colvin, Whitewood; nine grandchildren, William, Nick, Samantha, Dylon, Cody, Kelsey, Jayme, Kevin, and Jenny; and five great-grandchildren, Hayden, Julian, Gavin, Serenity, and Samuel.

A special thank you to Samantha for all of the love and care and being with Jordice until the very end. Grandma appreciated it! We Love You Mom! You were our rock!

She is preceded in death by her parents, Marine and Alta; her husband, Duane; four brothers, Merlyn, Virgil, Dean, and Jim; and one sister, Eunice.

A Memorial Service will be held at Friday, February 19, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Whitewood, SD, with Pastor David Baer officiating. A Private Family Inurnment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery alongside her beloved husband
