Joseph Elliot Apsher, 82, Sturgis, SD, died Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at the Ft. Meade VA Medical Center.
Joe was born March 18, 1924 at Chalk Butte, SD, to Joseph Edward and Lalah Fern (York) Apsher. Joe attended school through the eighth grade at Chalk Butte. He went to work ranching right after school until he was called to duty in the U.S. Navy. He served with the Navy from 1945 – 1946 during WWII. Joe came back to South Dakota and continued to ranch until 1959. After ranching, Joe went to work across the United States working in the Millwright industry from Gary, IN to Gillette, WY.
Joe loved to go to auctions and loved little children.
Survivors include five nieces and nephews; and one step grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.
Services will be Saturday, September 9, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Allen Tolliver officiating. Burial will follow at the Red Owl Cemetery near Red Owl with military honors provided by the Sturgis Honor Guard.
A memorial has been established to the Red Owl Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
