Joe was born December 5, 1926, to Thomas and Helen (McIlvenna) Kribell, the youngest of 9 children in Alcester, SD, and grew up on a farm near Beresford, SD. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy and proudly served during WWII.

At the end of the war, he returned to farming near Beresford. On June 18, 1947, he married Mildred Ann Gillen, his wife for 63 years, until her death in 2010.

After a move to California and 25 years as a truck driver, he retired, and returned to SD, settling in the Sturgis area. He worked his small acreage as a hobby farmer.

Joseph James Kribell died peacefully on June 25, 2016 at the age of 89.

He is survived by one sister, Florence; 5 children; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis. Burial will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to VA Hospice.
