Joseph was born August 30, 1966, in Minneapolis, MN, to Eugene and Joan (Beer) Johengen. In December of 1987, he joined the US Air Force. Ellsworth AFB was his first and only duty post for 20 of his 21 years, with the exception of one year in Korea and various deployments around the world. Joseph retired from the Air Force in 2009. After retirement he continued to support the Air Force as a civilian contract employee at Ellsworth AFB. He liked model rockets, ham radio, fishing, east river deer hunting, repairing small engines and electronics, along with horseback trail riding.

Joseph Mark Johengen, 50, Box Elder, passed away, Friday, November 25, 2016, surrounded by his family at his home.

Joseph is survived by his mother, Joan Johengen, Hackensack, MN; one brother, James (Robin) Johengen, Eau Claire, WI; one sister, Janet Johengen, Lakewood, WA; and one niece, Jasmine Johengen and her husband, Jeff Hughes, Edwards AFB, CA.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene, and his grandparents.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral in Rapid City, SD. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
