IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph Lavern
Lureen
August 3, 1948 – March 21, 2022
Joseph "Joe" Lureen was born on August 3, 1948, in Graceville, Big Stone, MN, to Otto and Barb Lureen. Joe was blessed to have 11 sisters and one brother.
Coming from a busy family, Joe was eager to start life on his own at a very young age. Joe joined the United States Marine Corps in December 1965 and serviced our country until December 1971. Two years and 11 months in Vietnam, Joes last duty station was in San Ana California and later transferred to Kansas City MO. Joe served as an Ammo Tech and inspector, holding honorable discharge with the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device.
After leaving the Marine Corps, Joe eventually found his personal passion for Truck driving, he found his career at home working at K and J Trucking in Sioux Falls, SD. Joe retired in 2010, spending a couple of years in California, Joe moved back to Sioux Falls, where he resided until he moved to the Vet home in Hot Springs, SD.
Joe had a son, Christopher Lureen, who has always been his proudest accomplishment and will always be known as "his boy!" However, in life Joe also held many titles and was also known an uncle and father figure in the lives of his stepchildren. Joe was also extremely proud and boastful of his three grandchildren, Landon (13), Rayne (6), and Summer (3).
Joe enjoyed many things in life, his favorite I think everyone would agree would be his morning coffee and frequent smoke breaks where you would find him meeting new friends and catching up with old friends and family. Joe enjoyed playing cards, dice, trips to Vegas, driving on the open road, spending his summers trucking with Christopher, his cars, his peanut butter and peanut M&M's, pistachios, good food, good company, his classic John Wayne movies, WWE Wrestling, A&E shows, cooking, being pampered, and spending time with his family.
Joe was always known for his stubborn ways, but has always been supportive, the light in dark times, kindhearted, well known for his loud voice and laugh that carried through a whole room, calm natured, outgoing, friend to all. Joe was really the biggest teddy bear; his heart and love knew no boundaries.
Joseph Lavern Lureen. Age 73, of Sioux Falls, SD, gained his angel wings on March 21 st , 2022, at Michael J Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home in Hot Springs, SD.
As Joe has left this world peacefully and is rejoicing in the heavens, he leaves his son, Christopher (Becca) Lureen; three grandchildren, Landon, Rayne, and Summer Lureen; sisters, Nancy Reedy, Marlene Ferguson, Par (Stanley) Rice, and Sandy (Bob) Appel; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Preceding his death are parents, Barb and Otto Lureen: seven sisters; and one brother.
"I hope you are dancing in the sky, and I hope you are singing in the Angels Choir, I hope the angels know what they have, I'll bet it's so nice in heaven since you have arrived." We will always Love and always Miss you Joe, until we see you again, thank you for the fingerprints you have left in our hearts and lives. Be at Peace.
Beloved son, brother, father, grandpa, uncle.
