Joseph A. Nonnast, Sr., 79, Sturgis, died Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at the South Dakota Human Services Center in Yankton.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. Burial will follow at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.
Joe was born April 11, 1936, at Sturgis, SD, to August Edward and Jennie Louise (McKenzie) Nonnast. Joe graduated from Sturgis High School.
Joe married Grace Brockel in 1957. They had two daughters. In 1967, he married Lois Miller and they had two sons. Following her death in 1972, he married Marcella Sorenson in 1974.
Joe worked for the South Dakota Department of Transportation for 37 years as a sign foreman, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis and served as an Elder. He was also a member of the South Dakota Archeological Society.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella; sons, Joe Nonnast, Jr., and Jim (Ann) Nonnast; stepson, Guy (Karen) Miller; daughters, Melody (Greg) McNulty and Betty Jo (Richard) Cook; stepdaughters, Vicki (Mike) Bradley and Valoree (Steve) Blake; brother, Eugene (Sonja) Nonnast; sisters, Betty Swanson, Shirley (Charles) Wennberg, and Rita Schwartz; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the South Dakota Human Services Center or the South Dakota Archeological Society.
