Joseph "Joe" James Weiers, 70, Rapid City, SD, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2024, near his home. Per Joe's request, there will be a private family graveside service on May 31, 2024, at Black Hills National Cemetery. Following the private service join his family for a Celebration of life from 2-5 p.m. at the Deadwood VFW, located at 10 Pine Street Deadwood, SD 57732
Joe was born on March 11, 1954, in Deadwood, SD, to David James and Domenica Maria (Ferrero) Weiers. He was raised in Lead, SD, where he attended and graduated Lead High School. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany. Upon returning from Germany, Joe returned to Lead, enlisted in the Army National Guard and started work at Homestake Mining Company. Joe continued his service in the National Guard until 2005 when he retired from military service. Upon Homestake closing in 1998, Joe and Linda moved to Mesa, AZ, and he worked for Weiers Trailer Sales until 2010 when Joe and Linda moved back to the Black Hills and Joe took a job at Peabody Mine until retirement.
Joe looked forward to spending his time with family, attending sporting events, and making his many trips with Linda to Twice Touched and Twice Touched at the Barn in Red Lodge, MT, looking for treasures and trying to fit everything into their vehicle. Joe was never without a cup of hot coffee whether it be in the Arizona heat or the frigid Black Hills.
Joe is survived by his wife: Linda (Geffre) Weiers, Rapid City; children: Crista (Weiers) Montemarano, Northlake, TX, Nick (Tasha) Weiers, Mountain Green, UT; grandchildren: Chance, Carson (U.S. Air Force), Alexis, Rhett, Jae, Lina, Lyric, Archer, Adrianna, and Nivia; brother: Robert "Bob" (Doreen) Weiers; along with numerous nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Teresa Weiers, and Toni Waterland.
