Obituary

Josephine Anna (Kari) Rogers, age 87, died at her home in Black Hawk, SD, on January 25, 2009.

She was born October 17, 1921, to Peter and Cathrine Kari and grew up in a sod house at the home ranch in Bixby, SD. Josephine was united in marriage to Lloyd A. Rogers on April 16, 1943, at Fairpoint, SD. They made their home at Bixby until 1951 when they moved to Belle Fourche where she worked at Eddie's Fifth Avenue Market and the new Safeway Store. In 1963, they moved to Deadwood where they owned and operated the Ranger Bar for ten years. They then returned to Belle Fourche.

Josephine spent several enjoyable years traveling with her husband when he was a truck driver for East-West Motor Express. She was a member of the Belle Fourche Altar Society until they moved to Black Hawk in 2003.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 64 years, Lloyd Rogers, Black Hawk; one son, Calvin Rogers, Kearney, NE; two daughters, Penny Schablitsky and Robin Hanson, both of Black Hawk; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five brothers; four sisters; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Barney Allen Rogers; one sister, Dorothy Kari; and her son-in-law, Paul Schablitsky.

Visitation will be Thursday from noon until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.

Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, January 30, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis with Father Arnold Kari officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
