Joyce Elaine (Vaughn) Jurisch Whitney, of Rapid City, South Dakota, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on September 6, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on October 31, 1931, in Winner, SD to Edward and Neva (Anderson) Vaughn. Joyce was raised in Miles City and spent much of her early adult life in Scenic, South Dakota, working at the family restaurant. It was there she met and married the love of her life, Robert Jurisch, and embraced the rugged beauty of ranch life in Scenic.
Joyce was a cherished member of the Scenic community, known for her warmth, generosity, and active participation in the church's Ladies Aid. After Robert's passing, she found companionship in her second husband, Chester Whitney, who survives her. Together, they retired in Newell, South Dakota, and later moved to Spearfish.
Joyce was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother whose legacy will continue to live on through them.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Jurisch and daughter, Norma Knight. Joyce is survived by her son, Randy (Sherryl) Jurisch; grandchildren, Bobbi Jackson, Scott (Lyndsay) Farnsworth, Nicole Jurisch, and Tyler Jurisch; great-grandchildren Kyleen (Michael) Newman, Amanda (Matthew Giesler) LaCroix, Hallie (Cody) Jackson, Benjamin, Samuel, and Noah Farnsworth; and great-great-grandchildren Lincoln LaCroix, Frances and Rory Newman, and Myles Giesler.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Kinkade Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the service at Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City.
