Obituary

Judith Grace Williams was born in Sturgis on August 25, 1939, to Richard B. and Ruth I (Kingsbury) Williams. She spent her entire childhood in Sturgis, graduating from Sturgis High School in 1957.

Judy attended Black Hills State College until moving to Rochester, MN, where she worked at IBM. During that stay she met and married David Iverson and they became the proud parents of sons, Richard and Randy.

The family later moved to Sturgis where Judy began working for Dr. Joseph Hamm while David began to build the family business, Iverson Construction. As the business grew, Judy became more involved, working in the office until shortly before her death.

A strong supporter of the community, Judy was involved in many Sturgis organizations and activities. Among those was her participation in the
development of the Sturgis Community Center where she also served on the board. She was especially active as a member of the City of Sturgis Planning and Zoning and city beautification projects. Judy served on the Sturgis Senior Center Board and was a member of the Sturgis Optimist Club. As a rally employee for the Jackpine Gypsies, Judy greeted guests in the city auditorium during the annual motorcycle rally for several years. She assisted with Meals on Wheels and the federal food distribution program for low income families. Judy was a loyal member of Chapter AY in P.E.O. Her favorite committees were those where she could help others in the community, especially children at Christmas.

Judy, 74, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, of pancreatic cancer in Sturgis, SD.

Judy is survived by her husband, David, of Sturgis; son, Randy Iverson and his wife, Cindy, Sturgis; daughter -in -law, Tammy Iverson, Sturgis; grandchildren, Jami Bistodeau, her husband, Michael, and their son, Kaden, Sturgis; Megan Iverson, Sturgis; Alexis Iverson, Sturgis; and David Iverson, Sturgis. Also mourning her loss are brothers, Nelson E. "Gurse" Williams, and his wife, Glenice, of Surprise, AZ, and Hot Springs, SD; and Marshall Williams and his wife, Sharon, of Sturgis. Several nephews, including Richard Williams and his wife, Kari, Pierre, and Jared Williams and his wife, Andria, and their daughter, Ava Grace, Sturgis, are saddened by her passing. Also surviving are nieces, Kristi Gjellum and her husband, John, Denver, and Shelley Maurer, her husband, Dave, and their daughters, Morgan and Marissa, Denver, and Sarah, Seattle, WA. Many loving cousins and Aunt Marietta Brodsky, Rapid City, will miss her greatly, too, as well as the friends and co -workers at Iverson Construction.

Judy is preceded in death by her parents and son, Richard.

Judy will be remembered as a compassionate, caring person who had a great deal of empathy for those who needed help of any kind. She quietly and anonymously contributed to their well -being whenever the opportunity arose. One thing she always insisted upon was openness, honesty and fairness. Respect for others was something she lived by every day.
