Judy was born June 24, 1955, in O'Neill, NE, to Emil and Phyllis Slattery. Her early years were spent on several ranches throughout Nebraska, South Dakota, and Colorado. The family settled in Sterling, CO. Judy finished her high school education in Sterling, and then gave birth to her first daughter, Kim, on September 14, 1972. One year later, she gave birth to her son, Neil, on September 23, 1973. In November of 1973, she met her first husband, David Gleason. They were married on February 16, 1974. On October 10, 1974, she gave birth to their daughter, Brandy.
In 1981, the family moved to Gillette, WY, where her dad opened his diesel repair shop. It was Emil and Ron's Diesel Repair. She worked there until her dad passed away in 1989. She then cleaned houses with her sister, Vonnie, for a number of years. Judy and David divorced in 2000, and she then met her current husband, Gary Horlick. They were married on March 15, 2004. Judy decided to stay at home to raise her stepson, Cameron. She also wanted to stay home to help her mom take care of their home, Slattery Acres.
Some of Judy's favorite things included: her horses, her kitty cats (especially her kitty cat, Thelma), crafting, wood working, her flower garden, crossword puzzles, and decorating for Christmas. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved acting silly with her grandkids, and her great-grandson. She always lit up when her great-grandson would come to spend time with his "GG." She had a favorite thing she would say when her kids or grandkids would head home: "Don't do anything I wouldn't do, and if you do, name it after me."
Judy (Slattery) Horlick, 63, passed away peacefully at Close to Home Hospice House on September 6, 2018, in Gillette, WY.
Judy is survived by her husband, Gary; her mom, Phyllis; her children: daughter, Kim (Tim) Hahn and their children, Dustin, Amber, and Shelby; son, Neil Prehmus; daughter, Brandy (Shawn) Zentner, and their children, Shawnice (great-grandson Asher), Shannon, and Bradley (great-granddaughter Aryiah); stepson, Cameron; brothers, Ron (Pam) Slattery and Daniel (Lisa) Slattery; sisters, Vonnie (Kenny) Gentry-Bergfield and Linda Ford; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Judy was preceded in death by her dad, Emil, in 1989; brother, Emil Jr., in 1990; as well as her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 11, prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at Central Baptist Church, 1170 Country Club Road, Gillette, WY, with Pastor Richard Prettyman officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
