Obituary

Julie Ann Baker, 32, Whitewood, died Sunday, April 6, 2014.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Michel Mulloy officiating. Burial will follow at St. Aloysius Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel from noon to 7:00 p.m., with a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Julie was born March 27, 1982, to Martin and Kitty (Helm) Baker in Sturgis. She grew up in the area and graduated from Sturgis Brown High School in 2000. She then went to Laramie Community College where she graduated in 2002, and from there she went to Montana State University and graduated in 2005 with a degree in equine reproduction.

She spent three winters in Texas working with horses on the Babcock Ranch, but she always returned to her home in South Dakota. Julie worked for Dr. Cammack at Northern Hills Veterinary Clinic for several years off and on. She also raised her own quarter horse herd, and was very talented at showing horses.

Julie loved to bake, especially for her family. One of her specialties was baking bread from "scratch." She also taught herself to crochet. A great void has been left and she will be greatly missed; she made the ranch tick.

Julie is survived by her parents, Martin and Kitty Baker, Whitewood; brothers, Tony, David, and Joe Baker, all of Whitewood; grandmother, Mary J. Baker, Belle Fourche; great-aunt, Babe Pelkey, Sturgis; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Carl Baker, and Dorothy and Herb Helm.

A memorial has been established to the St. Aloysius Cemetery Fund.
