Obituary

June was born June 22, 1932, in Cincinnati, OH. She was one of three children to bless Wilbur Albert and Mildred (Plunkett) Ake. Her father, Wilbur "Al," was the Fire chief and barber shop owner in Lawrenceburg, IN. Her mother, Mildred, was a homemaker.

After graduating from Lawrenceburg High School she married the love of her life, William Alexander Gleason, on December 23, 1950. They had 6 children; Patrice Marie, June Ann, Kimberly Rae, William Alexander, Jr., Stephen Allen (passed in infancy), and David Allen.

She supported her husband's 20 year military career in the US Army, moving frequently and caring for their growing family. She earned a Bachelor Degree from SDSU. June and her husband, Bill, owned and operated a flower shop in Lemmon, SD. Years later, she followed her passion to care for families as a social worker in the Bennet County/Martin area. She also worked as a special education teacher in Kyle, SD. She dedicated her life to the success and wellbeing of children and families. Once they retired, Bill and June enjoyed their home in Sneads, FL.

After losing her husband of 57 years in 2007, June moved to Deadwood, SD, to be with family. She enjoyed spending her time attending wrestling matches, dance recitals, and many other activities to watch her great-grandchildren, Natalie and Carson Pinske, of Deadwood.

Her greatest accomplishments were being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and loyal friend to many.

June passed away at the Regional Health Hospice House in Rapid City, SD, on May 8, 2018. She was surrounded by all five of her children and multiple grandchildren in the weeks leading up to her death. The family is grateful for the care and compassion shown by Dr. Holloway and his team at the Deadwood clinic and hospital, and Regional Health Hospice House in Rapid City.

June is survived by her five children, Patrice Marie (Harold) Price of Moultrie, GA, June Ann (Terry) Rude of Deadwood, SD, Kimberly Rae (Wayne Lewis) Gleason of Pehlem, GA, William (Julie) Gleason Lawrenceburg, GA, and David Allen (Leeza) Gleason of Las Vegas, NV; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 10, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Visitation will begin Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
