June B. (McHatton) Spencer was born June 2, 1934, to Earl and Catherine M. (Carigg) McHatton in Hamilton, MT. She was the 5th of 8 children. September 10, 1949, June married Clifton Kearney and became a stepmom to Edward Kearney who was 2 years old. Clifton and June had 4 children together. They later divorced.
June was never a person who shied away from hard work. She worked at Meadow Land Dairy with her sister and spent many years working at a Bakery in Missoula, MT. When she moved to South Dakota, she purchased the Vale Country Store. While working there, she also drove school bus for the Newell School system and worked at Gunner's Lounge in Sturgis, SD. June 27, 1982, she married Malden William "Bill" Spencer. June and Bill purchased the Vale Bar and worked side by side for 14 years. June will always be remembered for her ability to remember and tell a joke. She never lost her sense of humor. She was a wonderful cook with a canny ability to sometimes make something out of nothing.
June, 85, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at her home in Sturigs.
June is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Kurt) Hocking: son-in-law, Nick Meyer; two brothers, Dale McHatton and David (Bonnie) McHatton; grandkids, Amy (Mike) Duke, Jamie Kearney and significant other, Toby Beavis, Kandi Jensen and fiancé, Lonny Dockendorf, Kristilynn (Justin) Jonason, Mickey Kearney and fiancée, Jenna Stapleton, Melissa Oppelt, Samual Kearney, Jody (Craig) Kirk, and Rex (Morgan) Wulf; two step-grandchildren, CJ (Keisha) Hocking and Brandy Sims; and 20 great-grandchildren.
June is preceded in death by her parents; four children, Edward Kearney, Ginger Meyer, Mickey Kearney, and Jerry Kearney; siblings, Eugene McHatton, Annabel Erhart, Gladys Kearney, John Earl (Eddie) McHatton, and Alice Hansberry; grandson, Jason Meyer; and great-grandsons, Liam Meyer and Dylan Case.
A Celebration of June's life will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2019 at the Vale Community Center in Vale, SD.
