Obituary

Junior was born March 26, 1923, at Spearfish, SD, to Nels and Katrina (Evers) Andersen. He grew up in Spearfish and graduated from Spearfish High School.

Junior married Betty J. Bell on May 31, 1942. He worked at the Spearfish Co-op as a licensed cream tester, ice cream maker, and cheese and butter maker.

Junior served his country honorably in the US Army as a combat medic from 1943 until 1945. He received the bronze star, four battle stars, and numerous other citations. He returned home following his release as a POW and operated Andersen's Carpet and Drapery in Spearfish for 26 years.

He was active in his community and served with the Spearfish fire department and the Spearfish police department. Junior was a member of the VFW, POW, American Legion, and the DAV, as well as the SD Peace Officers Association and Fort Meade Volunteer Services.

Junior managed a furniture factory in Phoenix while living there for five years.

Junior L. Andersen, 94, Spearfish, died Thursday, October 12, 2017, at his residence.

Survivors include his son, Robert Andersen; daughter, Charlyne Sheehan; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Committal services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Friends may gather at Kinkade Funeral Chapel prior to leaving for the cemetery.
