Karen Renee' Mailloux, 48, Vale, SD, died in an auto accident on Friday, January 20, 2006, in Boulder Canyon.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel and Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Pastor Tom Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Karen was born April 16, 1957, at Watertown, SD, to Don and Dorothy (Croft) DeBerg. At the age of 6, her family moved to Spearfish where she attended school and graduated from Spearfish High School. She graduated in 1978 from Lake Area Vo-Tech in Watertown, SD, with an RPN degree. In 1978, she began working at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center in Nursing Service. Karen married Stephen Mailloux at Deadwood, SD, on April 16, 1981. They have lived near Vale since. Karen continued working in nursing at Fort Meade. She received her LPN degree in 2005. Karen worked at Fort Meade for 24 years. Karen enjoyed reading. She was very active as a "Soccer Mom," participating in the soccer club for over 12 years. Karen was also very active in the Employee Association at Fort Meade.
Survivors include her husband, Stephen of Vale; one son and his fiancee, Shane Mailloux and Candie Riley of Newell, SD; one daughter and her husband, Jennifer and Jay Erk of Bison, SD; one granddaughter, Sidney; her mother, Dorothy DeBerg of Cody, WY; her father and mother-in-law, Kenny and Mamie Mailloux of Vale, SD; one brother and his wife, Ron and Barb DeBerg of Cody, WY; three sisters, Jeanette Bradeen of Hemet, CA, Donna Myers and her husband, Jeff, of Cody, WY, and Melanie DeBusk and her husband, Marion, of Cody, WY; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her father, Don, and one niece, Amanda DeBerg, preceded her in death.
Memorials have been established to the Fort Meade Employees Association and to the Diabetes Association.
