Karen was born February 18, 1940, to Gordon and Hildur (Johnson) Lund Sr. at Hitterdal, MN. She went on to have three children, Dale, Elizabeth and JoAnne. On September 5, 1975, she married Kenneth C. Nelson and they spent the rest of her time in Deadwood.

Karen J. Nelson, 77, Deadwood, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Karen is survived by her husband, Ken Nelson, Deadwood, SD; one son, Dale Hanson, Jamestown, ND; and daughters; Elizabeth (Wilson) Park, Deadwood, SD, and JoAnne (Rodney) Keller, Spring Hill, FL; grandchildren, Jessica Wibe, Hitterdal, MN; Jerad Hanson, Fargo, ND; Jason Keller, Lead, SD; and Kristan (Keller) Sears, Spring Hill, FL; two great grandchildren, Max Keller, Lead, SD, and Andrew Keller, Lead, SD. The boys always brought a smile to her face. One brother, Gordon (Louise) Lund, Jr., Texas and one sister, Deborah Lund, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Clarence Lund, MN and Gary Lund, MN.

Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2018, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Inurnment follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Western Hills Humane Society.
