On October 22, 2021, our beautiful, loving sister Karen passed away.  Karen grew up in the town of Sturgis, South Dakota, the fifth child in a family of eight children. Karen graduated from Black Hills State College with a bachelor's degree in art and went onto a career as a graphic web artist. She loved her career and ability to work from home, utilizing her creativity and artistic abilities. Her needs were simple, her family, her animals, and nature. Her favorite times were spent with family, going camping, or simply spending time at holidays and special events.

She is survived by her five sisters, Wanda (Glen) Schummer, Kathy (Marlin) Anderson, Jean (Doug) Mailloux, Cindy (John) Sinclair, Laurie (Darrell) Brink; two brothers, John (Lydia) Salmen, and Mark (Michelle) Salmen.  She is also remembered by many nieces, and nephews who she enjoyed greatly, and her constant companion, her dog, Bella.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Iona Salmen.

We will always miss you but will have comfort in the knowledge of your joyous reunion with our parents. Fly with the angels, dear sister…until we meet again.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 6, 2021, 2:00 p.m., at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, Sturgis, SD.  Burial will follow at St. Aloysius Cemetery, Sturgis, SD.

A memorial has been established for the Sturgis Animal Shelter.
