Karon was born August 28, 1945, at Dupree, SD, to Claude and Eleanora (Davick) Lowe. She grew up on a farm and attended Prairie View grade school at Coal Springs, SD, and graduated from Faith High School in 1963. She then attended key punch (computer) school in Rapid City for six months. In 1965, she married Richard McGinnis and they moved to Fargo, ND, for a year. Tina Kay and Kami Lea were born. They divorced and Karon moved to Sturgis, in 1972, where she cooked at the Chat and Chew Café. In 1973, she married Donald Palmer and Cindy Rae was born. In 1980, they were divorced and she worked at the grocery store, kitchen hospital, and did housecleaning. In 1989, Karon began attending Black Hills State College to become a dietician. She did very well and even tutored algebra, but due to failing health she was forced to quit.
Karon's most favorite thing in life was finding a good bargain at a rummage sale. She also loved to garden, read, crochet, watch her trees and flowers grow, and spend time with her family and friends. She was very proud of her grandchildren. She also lived to decorate for the holidays.
Grateful for sharing Karon's life are her special friend, Newell Cass; daughters, Tina (Russ) Ficek, Pleasant Valley, Kami (Mike) Grubl, Vale, and Cindy (Brent) Hulm, Prairie City; sisters, Marlyn (Robert) Hansen, Sturgis, Darlys (Len) Hofer, Piedmont, Lucille Honeycutt, Vale, Sandra (Jim) Blair, Pierre, Kathy (Brad) Kling, Lemmon, and Cheryl (Dave) Crissman, Ipswich; grandchildren, Miranda Ficek, Kerri (Curt) Niehaus, Brynn Grubl, and Maddie, Trucker, and Kacie Hulm; great-grandchildren, Letti and Arian Niehous; and numerous nieces and nephews.
