Katherine Lee Brooks, 38, of Sturgis, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2013, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

A memorial visitation will be held from noon to 8:00 pm on Monday, February 11, 2013, with a time of sharing led by Pastor Steve Agan at 6:00 pm.

Katherine was born September 29, 1974, in King County, Washington to John and Wanda Veldman. She lived and grew up in the San Diego, California area, where she met Brad Brooks who was stationed at Camp Pendelton Marine Corp Base, and they were married in 1993. From there they moved to Sturgis, SD in 1995, where Katherine worked at various jobs, from bartending, to dietary aide, and cook. Katherine was a devoted homemaker and mother to her four year old son, Jesse and her two month old daughter, Maloree. She enjoyed camping, fishing, throwing darts, sunbathing, ping pong, dancing, music, and watching movies with her family. Katherine had her children later in life, and her children were her heart and soul; every waking moment she was devoted to her children and her home.

Katherine leaves to mourn, her husband, Brad; son, Jesse Eugene Brooks; daughter, Maloree Louise Brooks; mother, Wanda Louise (Rodney) Jackson; sisters, Kelly (Jeff) King, Cedar Rapids, IA, Rebecca Landis, Ohio, Mae (Christopher) Lee, San Diego, CA, and Angela Veldman, Portland, OR; brother, Alan Veldman, Portland, OR; nieces, Diana and Ashley Landis, Aubrey, Christy, and Jessica DeAngina, and Anna Marie Lee; nephews, Christopher Matthew Arnold, Cory Landis, and Brian DeAngina; and her very best friends, Tracy Silvernail, Kami Sanders, Lori Eleffson, Jamie Hendrickson, and Sonya Dobrenski.

She is preceded in death by her father, John A. Veldman.

A memorial has been established for the benefit of her two children.
