IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathleen Mary
Meyer
March 24, 1929 – November 4, 2021
Kathleen Mary (Burdick) Meyer, 92, of Belle Fourche, SD, died Thursday, November 5, 2021, at Rolling Hills Healthcare Facility. Kathleen was born March 24, 1929, in Red Owl, SD, to Harry and Edith Ramsdell. She grew up on the family farm at Red Owl, SD, until 1951, when the family moved to Sturgis. Every school day she rode her horse, Kit two miles to the country grade school where she attended, Kathleen graduated from Sturgis High School in 1947. She married Leo Burdick in March of 1948. They lived on the Burdick family farm. To this union came 5 children. Kathleen devoted her life to caring for others, including elderly extended family and many foster children. She loved taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Often crafting the day away with them. When money was limited Kathleen provided for her family well with all of her talents and hard work. She loved playing scrabble, loved gardening, and canning her produce. She was quite a seamstress. All four girls had matching new skirts and blouses for the first day of grade school each year. Always willing to share and teach her talents with others. Kathleen, along with Dorothy Short, made many of their children's wedding cakes and provided their famous cream cheese mints for many other weddings.
Kathleen worked outside of the home also; she was secretary for social services as well as for KBHB radio station; (occasionally announcing for them also), in Sturgis for some time. She owned the Hilltop Motel in Spearfish, SD, for several years, and also owned the South Town Motel in Rapid City.
She led a very active life, hosting many fishing derbies, ice skating parties with bonfires, and square dancing on the family farm. She was a founding member of the Buttons and Bows Club in Sturgis.
In her later years she moved to Newell, SD, where she gardened and took care of her older sister, Marjorie until her death. She enjoyed helping her children on their farms, gardening, feeding bum lambs, and raising chickens. She enjoyed her grandkids stopping in for coffee and having some homemade cookies.
Survivors include her children, Roxie McQuilkin, Lake Whales, FL, Dixie Davis, Miles City, MT, Kathryn (Daniel) Rhoden, Newell, SD, and Cynthia (Norman) Long, Casper, WY; daughter-in-law, Myrna Burdick, Rapid City, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents; all her brothers and sisters; and her son, Thomas Burdick.
