Obituary

Kay was born July 10, 1937, in Deadwood, SD, to Charles and Laura Blotz. At a young age, the family moved to Red Owl before moving to Enning where the family operated the Enning Store. She went to grade school east of Enning and later stayed in Sturgis attending St. Martin's where she graduated.

On December 1, 1956, she married Nels M. Larive. They were married for 60 years and were blessed with 7 children, 9 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Throughout her life, she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the hearts of many. She possessed a contagious smile along with her gift of constant nurturing love and faith. Her favorite pastime was caring for and spending time with her grandkids. She faithfully cared for family and friends through her cooking, baking from scratch, including cake decorating, and sewing. Unfortunately, her long, painful and crippling battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis took all that away including being able to hold her grand babies. She was a woman of faith and the heart of the family.

It would be selfish for us to wish that she was still with us because of what she was going through. So with that, our one wish would be that every child and every grandchild could have a mother and grandmother like we had. She will forever be in our hearts.

Kay F. (Blotz) Larive passed away at her home in Sturgis Thursday, May 10, 2018.

Her precious memories will be cherished by her sons, Mark (Tanya) Larive and Dan Larive; daughters, Cindy Barry, Lori (Bob) Packer, and Beck (Allen) Reiman; nine grandchildren, Corey (Heather) Barry, Holly (Marty) Spurlock, Gunnar Foss, Shania Larive, Tyler (Sheridan) Larive, Amanda Larive, and Casey, Cody, and Caden Packer; five great-grandchildren, Chyanne and Sophia Spurlock, Conner Dove, KayLee Barry, and Wyatt Larive; sister, JoAnne (Clare) Montgomery; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Nels; son, Chuck Larive; daughter, Mary Esther Larive; and a brother, Dean Blotz.
