Obituary

RAPID CITY | Kemm Satterfield of Rapid City, SD, passed away Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at the Spearfish hospital.

She had been temporarily staying in Sundance, Wy, at the Assisted Living home. Her daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Cindy Corean, were making handicap-accessible adjustments to their home so she could move to the ranch with them, but God had other plans. Kemm quietly crossed over while sleeping, surrounded by loving members of her family.

It is hoped that her many friends will take comfort in the fact that she was well-cared for, happy and comfortable at the end.

Kemm Moreen Sack was born Feb. 27, 1933, in Hettinger, ND, to Lyle and Dexter (Woody) Sack. She grew up surrounded by a large extended family, graduated from high school in Reeder, ND, and from the Rapid City School of Business. After meeting Sid Satterfield on a blind date, they were married Sept. 7, 1952, and she began her career as a military wife with her young TSgt. from Texas who was stationed at Ellsworth AFB. Their family grew with Cindy, born at Ellsworth, and Steve, born at Carswell AFB, Fort Worth, TX. After 21 years of adventures in the Air Force, they retired to Spearfish, SD.

Although there were many good times and good friends in Spearfish, the decision was made to move back to Rapid City to be closer to Sid's doctors. He died of cancer in 1992 with Kemm caring for him to the end. She stayed in Rapid with the support of her friends, family and especially her church.

Kemm became a mother again when she took on the responsibility of raising Steve's two young sons, Dan and Dave, when their mother, Joyce, was killed in a car accident in 1993. They were two and seven years old and she was a widowed grandmother in her sixties at the time, but she did a great job and the family will be forever grateful for the sacrifices she made to raise those little boys into fine young men.

Kemm is survived by two brothers, Dr. Kent Sack, Pacheco, Ca, Loren (June) Sack, Maple Grove, Mn; one sister, Susie Kapelovitz, Dickinson, ND; one daughter, Cindy (Kelly) Corean, Sundance, Wy; one son, Steve Satterfield, Rockerville, SD; nine grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren, who knew her as "Hammie."

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandparents, daughter-in-law, Joyce, one infant grandson, and numerous dear relatives.

A memorial service at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rapid City is scheduled for Nov. 2 at 11 am., with lunch following. Burial of her ashes will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery at 2 pm. All are welcome.
