Ken was born to Harry and Dorothy Fairbanks in Dupree, SD, on August 18, 1942. He liked to be called Ken. He graduated from Dupree High School on May 26, 1961. Ken worked many years in the lumber industry, from a carpenter at Lampert's Lumber to later a manager of Knecht's Lumber store in Spearfish. Ken loved the Black Hills and spent much time doing everything from camping and hunting to four wheeling. He rode motorcycles and was a member of the Jackpine Gypsies in the 80's. In his later years he enjoyed reading.
Kenneth "Ken" Reed Fairbanks, 76, of Sturgis, died November 15, 2018, with his family by his side.
Ken is survived by his brother, Don (Sally) Fairbanks, and sister, Joyce (Bud) Stapert. Ken is also survived by 9 children as well: Michael (Andrea) Fairbanks of Fruita, CO; Terri (Kevin) Wedderburn of Sturgis, SD; Kelly Fairbanks of Longville, MN; Matthew (Arica) Fairbanks of Box Elder, SD; Michelle Salazar of Sturgis, SD; Edyth (Don) Jennings of Presho, SD; Patty (David) Colee of Colorado Springs, CO; Sarah (George) Meisner of Sundance, WY; David (Shana) Salazar of Manhattan, KS. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Carol; parents, Harry and Dorothy; brother, Harry; and sister, Joan (Jack) Seymour.
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 26, 2018, at the Sturgis Church of Christ with Pastor Ozzy McDaniel officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.
