Kenneth Fredekind, 65, passed away unexpectedly on December 12th, 2023 at Monument Health in Sturgis, SD.
Ken was born October 27th, 1958 in Clarkston, WA, to Lydia and Duane Fredekind. In his early childhood they lived several places but his family finally settled in Vale, SD in 1971. He was an alumnus of Newell High School, Class of 1977. His primary home was in the Black Hills until his passing.
Ken Fredekind lived his life to the fullest, just the way he wanted to. In addition to being a decent outdoors man, he loved to go fast! Though he had an appreciation for a nice Cadillac or some other classic car, what he loved was bikes. From dirt bikes to Harleys, Ken loved the wind in his hair well, maybe just his beard or signature mustache, and the feeling of freedom when being on a bike. He loved a good story, a good laugh, a good ride, a good stogie and a good beer. He also loved tinkering in the shop with his lifelong best friend, John. When his children were young, many memories were made spending the summers fishing and camping.
He retired from the Wharf Mine in Lead, SD. After retirement he enjoyed his free time with his longtime partner, Judy, and their pets.
He is survived by his significant other, Judy Silvernagel; children, Tessa Lehi, Jessica
Fredekind, Kyle (Jalynn) Fredekind, Tyler (Whitney) Fredekind; grandchildren, Bailey Lehi, Stevie Fredekind, Kyrie Fredekind, Jacksen Fredekind, Joselyn Fredekind, Casen Thomas; mother, Lydia Fredekind; sister, Erin (Jeff) Kennedy; brother, Mark Fredekind. He is preceded in death by his father, Duane Fredekind.
Burial will begin Saturday, December 16th at 1 o'clock at the Vale Cemetery. Memorial will follow at the Vale Bar 2-5 pm.
