SPEARFISH | Kenneth Harold Anderson, 90, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at the David M. Dorsett Healthcare Center.
Kenneth was born August 20, 1922, in Newell to Carl and Carrie (Hogstrom) Anderson. He attended Riverside Country School and graduated from Newell High School in 1940.
Kenneth married Martha Dumler on July 28, 1945, in Newell. They farmed just north of his parents. They grew sugar beets and raised sheep. He was president of the U and I Sugar Beet Association. Martha passed away in 1969. The farm was sold in 1971. Ken, Brad, and Scott moved to Spearfish where Ken owned and operated Lou's Liquor and worked for Brown Swiss. He later married Fern Smith and retired in Spearfish.
Ken loved bowling and bowled in many leagues. He bowled until two years ago. He enjoyed family get-togethers and a good game of cards. His garden was a source of enjoyment for him. He and Fern enjoyed their drives to Deadwood.
Survivors include his wife, Fern of Spearfish; five sons, Gary (Mary) of Sturgis, Steve (DeLisa) of Washougal, WA, Randy (Brenda) of Fairfield, CA, Brad (Sherry) of Spearfish, and Scott (Leticia) of Nipomo, CA; three stepdaughters, Pam (Kent) Harrison of Sammamish, WA, Jeanette (Bill) Butherus of Bremerton, WA, and Diane (Dennis) Hodson of Highland, UT; a stepson, Larry (Anita) Smith of Shoreline, WA; two brothers, Roy of Castle Rock, CO, and Darrell of Rapid City; a sister, Aileen Thares of Rapid City; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Martha; a brother, Clarence; and a sister, Esther Hubbard.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Hope Cemetery in Newell.
A memorial has been established to the Spearfish Relay For Life.
