Obituary

Kenneth John Henderson "Butch", 72, passed away at his home September 8, 2021 in Sturgis, South Dakota.

Butch was born on May 12, 1949 in Rome, New York.  He was the son of Lester Arthur Henderson and Margaret Wilcox Henderson.  He grew up and attended Rome Catholic Academy and Rome Free Academy in New York.  He wanted to be called "Butch" as a young child and was called "Butch" throughout his adult life by those that loved him best.  He had an adventurous spirit, in his early twenties he joined the circus, set up and moved equipment and traveled the United States.  Eventually he settled in Venice Beach and honed his guitar skills for a year.

Later, Butch moved to the ghost town of Superior, Wyoming from 1973-74 and worked as a laborer building the Jim Bridger Power Plant.  He then moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming where he worked construction of the Family Recreation Center and in the oilfields of Wyoming.  In the late 70's he moved from Wyoming to Sparks and Fallon, Nevada where he worked in the silver mines.  Butch then returned and lived in Sheridan, Wyoming and attended college.  He later lived in Gillette, Wyoming for a brief time.

Butch, loved God.  He was half Native American from the Iroquois Nations and was drawn to the spirituality and beauty of the Black Hills, where he spent his final years in Spearfish and Sturgis, South Dakota.

He was a voracious reader, a lover of the ancient philosophies, theologies, psychologies, and the great classics.  Butch was noted for his beautifully written letters.  He was also an accomplished guitarist and vocalist, who loved music, antiques, old trucks and motorcycles, concerts, being in nature, visiting loved ones, and he was quite popular with the ladies.  He loved children and making them laugh and he shared his dry sense of humor and humbleness with a gifted ability to laugh at himself.

Kenneth John "Butch" Henderson is survived by his three daughters, Carma Moore of Kalispell, Montana, Sarah Riggs of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Tara Henderson of Fallon, Nevada; 11 grandchildren, Wesley, Emily, Bailey, Devin, Josh, Isabelle, Donovan, Jamie, Destiny, Kiara, and Thane; brothers, Bob Henderson, Don Henderson, and Francis Henderson; sister, Kathy Bloss Henderson; several nieces and nephews; his former partner, Roberta Rose Vaughn; and stepchildren, Amber Fromm Donais and Dianna Kintzler.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lester; mother, Margaret; brother, Leroy; and stepson, Erik Fromm.

Butch will be greatly missed.  The last songs he posted online for family and friends were "Against the Wind" by Bob Seger and "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran.
