Kenneth Wayne Horst, 73, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Sturgis Regional Hospital.

Kenneth Wayne Horst was born on Nov. 5, 1939, in Java, SD, to Adolph J. Horst and Bertha (Schaeffer) Horst. He worked for Walworth County until he relocated to Sturgis, SD, in 1992. He then began working for the South Pine Motel and most recently the Lantern Motel. He was a very hardworking man and went above and beyond what was needed to upkeep the motel and have it ready for rally-goers. Kenneth also enjoyed spending time in Deadwood playing the slots and testing his luck, which he had a lot of.

He leaves to mourn, his sister, Viola Horst of Jamestown, ND; sister, Ramona (Henry) Scherer of Sturgis, SD; brother, Clayton Horst of Hot Springs, SD; daughter, Monica (Mike) Eggleston of Dover, DE; son, Brad Horst of Rapid City; daughter, Michelle (Colby) Horst-Irving of Box Elder; daughter, Melissa Gentry-Horst of Aurora, CO; son, Brian (Jen) Horst of Black Hawk; 18 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Clifford, Rueben, and Johnny; and 5 sisters, Ester Moore, Shirley Dubris, Irene Horst, Adeline Horst, and Ruby Horst.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, 1235 Junction Avenue, Sturgis, SD 57785, with Pastor Henrique Fleming officiating.
