Obituary

Ken was born October 15, 1929, to Melvin and Mable (Smith) Montague in Beattie, KS. He lived a long and full life with many stories that he could, and would, tell at the drop of a hat.
Like many kids in his day, Ken dropped out of school at the age of 14 to help his family, working a mail route with his dad. At the age of 17, he moved to Belle Fourche, SD, to drive truck on the bentonite run. During that time, he would meet the love of his life, Lora Green. The two would be wed on July 10, 1950, and to this union would come a son, Dale, and a daughter, Karla. Ken lived in many places, from Kansas to Texas, and finally settling in South Dakota.
Ken managed the truck stop at Maverick Junction in Hot Springs, SD, and Skelly's Truck Stop in Sturgis, SD. He eventually went to work at Godfrey Brakes in Rapid City, SD, and while working there, he would purchase his first of many trucks. Over 30 years, with his loving wife by his side, he would travel millions of miles around the U.S. and Canada, hauling everything from military equipment and jet engines, right down to dry goods. Eventually, when Lora's health began failing, they retired from driving truck over the road, and sold their last truck.
Lora passed away in the Spring of 2010, and Ken sold his home in Sturgis and moved to Belle Fourche with his daughter and son-in-law. In 2017,  Ken moved into the Rolling Hills Nursing Home in Belle Fourche. Throughout the years, Ken looked forward to spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids, and enjoyed attending their events.
