Kenneth "Kenny" Lyle Sanders, 76, of Hurricane, UT died Sunday, November 24th, 2013.
He was born August 20th, 1937 in Phillip, SD to Ruth and Clifford Sanders. He grew up on a cattle ranch with 6 brothers and sisters: Ike, Norman, Arlene, Diane, & Butch in Enning, SD. Kenny joined the Navy in 1955 and he proudly served his country until 1959.He met his late wife Donna Sanders in Long Beach, CA and they married in 1960. They lived together in Bellflower, CA for many years and were blessed with two sons, Matthew and John Sanders.
Kenny was a heavy equipment mechanic for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 12 for 30 years and he retired in 1995. He was very loved and respected by his fellow coworkers, friends, neighbors and family. After retirement he relocated to Highlandville, Missouri, and again enjoyed the fresh air and farm life tending to his horses, chickens and goats. After Donna's passing he moved to Spearfish, South Dakota to surround himself with his cherished family. Later he moved to Idaho to be with his son, John and his family. He spent his last days in Hurricane, UT with his loving partner, Kim Presley and her Mother Ruby Presley.
He had a passion for horses and passed that along to his grandchildren. Kenny had a very strong love for his grandkids, who lovingly referred to him as their "Poppy". One of his favorite past-times was a good game of Scat! He will always be remembered for bringing smiles and laughter to everyone he knew.
Kenneth is survived by two children: John and Catherene Sanders, of Valparaiso, IN; and Matt and Kristina Sanders, of Murrieta, CA. He also is survived by six grandchildren: Allison, Bethany, Ian, Ethan, Haley, and Luke Sanders, and one great-grandchild, Sierra Harvey. In addition, he is survived by three siblings: Ike Sanders, Diane Greenwaldt, and Butch Sanders.
Visitation will be noon until 8 p.m. on Friday, November 29th at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD. The funeral service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, November 30th at the same location. The burial will take place at White Owl Cemetery following the funeral service.
