Kent was born on December 16, 1959, in Pierre, SD. He grew up near Faith, SD, on the family ranch. He attended Newell High School, graduating in 1978. He went on to attend college at the University of South Dakota in Springfield graduating with an Associate of Art Degree - Psychology in 1981.

He worked several jobs: selling advertising for a radio station and working at the Gurneys Seed Co. while living in Yankton, SD. While living in western Nebraska one of his favorite jobs was working at The Oregon Trail Wagon Train, Bayard NE. There he helped with meals and doing what he loved.... entertaining people around the campfire singing and telling stories.

Kent was an avid music lover! He learned how to play the guitar and piano by taking lessons. He loved to sing and entertain people of all ages! His passion was playing at nursing homes, singing to the residents with song after song that was requested. He knew just about every song that was requested. He especially loved Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley.

Kent Doyle Gabriel, 62, died Monday, July 11, 2022.

He is survived by his sister, Faye (TW) Schalesky of Faith; brother, Zane Gabriel of Rapid City; nieces, Gail (Todd) Ginsbach of Newell, Carrietta (Pete) St. Peter of Sturgis, and Gail Gabriel (Robert Haveman) Rapid City; and nephew, Jacob Schalesky of Faith; great-nieces, Victoria, Raina Ginsbach, and Reagan Garner; and great-nephews, Jared Ginsbach, and Aiden Haveman.

Kent was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ilma; and sister, Gail Irene; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD.

Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Zeona, SD.

A memorial will be established in his name.
