IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kent Arthur
Glynn
August 2, 1957 – September 5, 2021
Kent Arthur Glynn was born August 2, 1957, in Kadoka, SD, to Arthur and Joyce (Griswold) Glynn. The family lived in Belvidere, Interior, and Wall, then moved to Rapid City, SD, in 1960. Kent attended school in Rapid City.
Kent worked many jobs, from washing dishes at the Chuckwagon Café for a $1.00 per hour. In 1976 to 1993, he worked at Dakota Steel as a Customer Service representative up to a Warehouse Manager. In 1993, he got laid off from Dakota Steel and went to work at Walmart for less than a year and made $5.85 per hour working graveyard shifts and got his diploma (finished his last two credits). Kent also worked at Hammerheads Construction, where he was doing wood carpentry and building homes, he learned a lot from Blake Nudell, He could build a building by feel (metal thickness, etc.) Kent used to say "I built so many ugly things out of concrete and metal…. It was a joy to build something with cedar siding." (A beautiful home verses a turd on the highway). He worked at Heavy Constructors where he worked on roads and bridges, and Gustafson Construction working on airplane hangars and metal building. He worked on a 12 plex in Sioux Falls that was a record build and was done in 7 weeks. He did buildings built from start to finish, from first steel staked in the dirt to being the last guy to walk off the job site and hand the customer the key. He was part of the crew that built the Whitewood bridge, Harley Davidson in Deadwood and Hill City, B-1 Bomber Fall Restraint System at Ellsworth AFB, First Gold Hotel addition, Hickocks Hotel addition, Silverado Hotel addition, Fenski Jangar at the airport and polished the concrete to look like marble. Old Wayne Gustafson, one arm, would grab a handful of dirt and smell it to see how much shale was in it, to see if it would qualify as federal quality backfill. Old Gene Harmon and Wayne would eyeball the mountains and could tell how many million tons of gravel they would amount to.
Kent was married in 1982 to Tracy Holzwarth, to this marriage they had one child, Nicole. Kent had Jessica with Crystal Grooms, thirteen years later.
Kent loved being out in nature, fishing, hunting, and building things. He was great at finish work and had an eye for detailing. Kent loved the country life at both his grandparent's farms where he helped out when he could in his younger years.
Kent Glynn was a hard-working crazy guy, he had many nicknames in his life, kuntakentay being one he always showed kindness to others and had a Nacht for teaching people young and old. He was a stunt guy and a builder participating in the Hidalgo movie as a calvary man to building bridges we all have driven across at least once.
Kent loved helping others to get on their feet again he opened his home to family, friends, and acquaintances. Kent wanted his nephew's Jason car when he passed away. He taught his daughters about cars and pickups through the years, they took on a project of fixing up a 1971 Dodge Coronet Super Bee. Jessica enjoyed doing some bodywork while he tried to get it running smoother over the years.
He had wild ideas and sometimes went through with them jumping his home-made waterside on his 600cc dirt bike only to crash into the fence to miss the pool being 1 of them or staying out in a tornado at curlew pond to catch carp (which he really wanted to be a walleye to his dismay). He went great lengths to have fun and show people it doesn't take much to have it either. He had great compassion and generosity he was a father and grandfather like no other, he will be missed dearly. Kent was a beloved son, husband, father, and friend…
