Obituary

Kimberly Ann Westland, 50, Belle Fourche, died Friday, March 21, 2014, at Rochester Methodist Hospital due to complications from liver disease after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time of her death.

Kimberly Ann (Hastings) Westland was born April 6, 1963, in Deadwood, SD, to Delbert Hastings and Patricia Mailloux. She lived in Newcastle, WY, until the death of her father, Delbert. She was 7 years old. She and Patricia moved to Spearfish where she lived and attended school. Kim graduated from Spearfish High School in 1981. After graduation, she moved to Phoenix, AZ, where she worked and attended Plaza 3 Academy. After graduating from Plaza 3 Academy with a degree in fashion merchandising, she moved to Dallas, TX, to work. In 1987, she moved to Belle Fourche, SD, where she began work at the Belle Fourche Country Club, started her own catering business and met the love of her life, Jeffrey Westland, who she married in 1992. During this job, her talent and love for cooking was brought out and it eventually lead to her next job as manager of the Bullock Express in Deadwood, SD. During her tenure there, the birth of her three sons, Austin, Zachary, and Bryson, happened. After a long run in the kitchen industry she went on to work for the Rapid City Journal as an advertisement salesman and discovered that she had a trait for selling advertisement. This job is where she met many of her lifelong friends. She briefly went back to the restaurant business before accepting a job at the Black Hills Pioneer, where she worked until her health deteriorated too far to work.

Kim was a loving mother, wife, and daughter who had a passion for cooking. She fought a long and hard battle with a slew of medical problems but she never once gave up.

Kim is survived by her mother, Patricia Tope; husband, Jeffrey Westland; sons, Austin, Zachary, and Bryson Westland, Belle Fourche; step-sister, Cindy (Brett) Nieber, Sioux Falls; step-brother, Doug Tope, Belle Fourche; uncle, Homer Hastings, Newcastle, WY; aunt, Doris Mayes, Owasso, OK; uncle, Mike Hastings, West Virginia; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Floyd Jr. and Bonnie Westland, Belle Fourche; sister-in-law, Deb (Don) Ward, Belle Fourche; brother-in-law, Steve (Rose) Westland, Belle Fourche; brother-in-law, Mike Westland, Belle Fourche; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her father, Delbert; step-father, Wilfred Tope; and grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2014, at the Christian Life Center in Belle Fourche with the burial to follow in Pine Slope Cemetery. Pastor Paul Howard will be officiating.
